Next year, Cadillac Racing will be joining the fray in the Hypercar class of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with its Cadillac V-LMDh. Three drivers with close ties to the marque will contest the seven races that make up the FIA WEC season, including the American constructor’s first 24 Hours of Le Mans since 2002.
Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn, who steered the Cadillac DPi-VR to victory at the 2022 12 Hours of Sebring, will be joined by Richard Westbrook at the wheel of the Cadillac V-LMDh prepared by Chip Ganassi Racing. The 1000 Miles of Sebring launches the 2023 FIA WEC season on 17 March next year.
The three drivers will also take part in the Rolex 24 at Daytona at the end of January. That race is the opening round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the North American endurance series. “We look forward to new challenges by entering the V-LMDh in the World Endurance Championship,” said Global Vice President of Cadillac Rory Harvey. “Bringing together a world-class team of drivers is paramount to our success next year and Cadillac Racing has accomplished that.”
Earl Bamber won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015 and 2017 with Porsche and took the title in the GTLM class in the IMSA in 2019. Alex Lynn, who has competed in 28 WEC races since 2016, was victorious in the LMGTE Pro class at the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans with Aston Martin. Meanwhile, Richard Westbrook claimed third place at the last 24 Hours of Le Mans with Glickenhaus Racing. The former Chevrolet Corvette works driver has won 11 IMSA races and took a class win at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2018 with Chip Ganassi Racing.
Cadillac Racing had already announced the drivers for the two cars that it will field in the nine IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races: Sébastien Bourdais, Renger van der Zande, Pipo Derani and Alexander Sims.
The other drivers for the 2023 IMSA calendar, starting with the 61st Rolex 24 at Daytona, will be announced at a later date.
These seven drivers are all involved in the development of the Cadillac V-LMDh out on track.
