February starts with a week full of great auctions in Paris for Bugatti collectors

On February 3rd , at the Festival Automobile International, a 1925 Type 35 sold for 314 468 Euros, and only one day later a Type 57 Atalante scored top price (579 966 Euros) at the Artcurial Motorcars auction which took place at the Retromobile exhibition. On Saturday, February 5, at the Grand Palais, Bonhams sold a 1933 Type 51 and a 1930 Type 46 for close to 1.6 million Euros (943 000 for the former, and 632 500 for the the latter).

The Bugattis, featured as undisputed stars of the Bonhams and Artcurial auctions, thus did meet the high expectations. The outcome of these auctions highlights the fact that these cars were the ultimate in luxury and style between the two world wars, crowned with two outright wins at the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1937 and 1939, just before the second world war broke out. Ten years later, a new, young Italian make in it’s first participation in the famous Sarthe race won the race for its first time: Ferrari. A new legend was born…
