After Jody Scheckter - F1 World Champion in 1979 - South Africa could again shine on the global automotive stage with te Bailey LM P2.
Completed in 2011 after two years of development, the Bailey will soon be available from the South African manufacturer which has previously specialized in the creation of replicas (Porsche 917, Ford GT40). The car will will take South Africa onto the global motor sport scene, and will face established American and European LM P2 teams (Morgan, Oreca, Lotus, HPD, Lola).
After a long stay in France and notable appearances at Le Mans (in the margins of the 24 Hours) and at Paris car show (Mondial de l'Automobile), the first chassis has returned to its country of origin where development should continue. It will soon be joined by a second prototype.
Although designed to be eligible in Europe, America and Asia for "Le Mans" entitled series (WEC, ELMS, ALMS, LMS Asian), it is in France that the machine seems to have found its first client: Sbarta Sport - whose arrival in endurance was abandoned in 2011. The team led by Sylvain Boulay (10 participations as a driver at the 24 Hours of Le Mans) is working to raise funds needed to run the car next year.
