Among the technical innovations of the new Audi is the first completely LED lighting system mounted on a prototype for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
These lights are the result of close cooperation between Audi Sport and the Department of Technical Development of Audi AG, in preparation for use on future road cars. Technicians and designers of this system have even allowed a historic reference on the A18: in daytime mode, LED headlights on the R18 represent the number 1, which appeared on the original logo of the German manufacturer. The concept of the rings that we know today symbolises the merger of the four brands: DKW, Horch, Wanderer and Audi of course, in the logo of Auto Union in 1932, so Audi was at that time represented by just one of the four rings.
Headlights using LEDs are now recognized for their quick response (2 to 15 milliseconds), low power consumption and long service life.
