The unique artwork by Tobias Rehberger gives an impression of movement and speed when the car is static. Thirty years after the first Art Car was seen at Le Mans 24 Hours, Rehberger has introduced a new design in his characteristic geometric style.
The award-winning German artist is well-known for his abstract artwork and is a great fan of optical illusions.
“My design for the Aston Martin art car is rooted in my interest in distorted perception and related phenomena like auto moving patterns, optical effects, camouflage and visual confusion, which I have addressed in many works before”, says the German designer.
The effect of movement created by the optical illusion means that one cannot fix a point on the car when it is not moving.
Tobias Rehberger will be at the Le Mans 24 Hours on Saturday as a guest of Aston Martin Racing.
