As Jackie Chan DC Racing found out, you can be 19 points ahead and lose the championship in the last round. After a chaotic start, their #35 Oreca 03R limped back to the pit with a puncture while the safety car went out. After the repair, an engine problem sent the car back to base for good, leaving Algarve Pro Racing’s #25 Ligier JS P2 a free rein to pursue the team’s first race victory of the season and secure the LM P2 championship win that comes with the added bonus of an invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Algarve Pro Racing driver Andrea Roda also took the driver’s title.
Jackie Chan DC Racing found some consolation with a third place in LM P3. ARC Bratislava however, missed out on the podium altogether, conceding their race lead to Tockwith Motorsports’ Ligier JS P3. The latter took the championship crown and with it the prized invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
In the GT class, DH Racing’s Ferrari 488 GT3 came second in the race, which was enough to win the championship title and the same sought-after ticket to Le Mans.
Racing continues in Asia with the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup and the ALMS recommences in China in October.
