The Audi driver has competed in the Super Formula series for more than a decade now and decided to stay on in Japan after finishing third at the 6 Hours of Fuji, the sixth leg of the 2015 World Endurance Championship. In Sugo, he started from pole and went on to claim his second victory of the 2015 season.
At the sixth and penultimate round of the 2015 Super Formula season, Lotterer shared the front row of the grid with teammate Kazuki Nakajima, who drives for Audi’s rival Toyota in the World Endurance Championship. Nakajima finished fourth and is now second in the provisional standings just ahead of Lotterer. On 1st November, the pair will become rivals once again at the 6 Hours of Shanghai before teaming up once more a week later in the Petronas TOM’S Toyota squad for the finale of the 2015 Super Formula at Suzuka.
With Marcel Fässler and Benoît Tréluyer, André Lotterer is still in the running for the WEC drivers’ title, sitting just one point behind Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley and Mark Webber (Porsche 919 Hybrid). Don’t forget that the German driver already took the Super Formula title (known as Formula Nippon at the time) in 2011, the same year he claimed his first victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Tickets for the 2016 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be on sale from Tuesday 3 November (ACO members) and Friday 6 November (general public).
