After a trip to Canada for the fourth round at Mosport, the American Le Mans Series competitors return to the United States for the Mid-Ohio race to be held on the 6th of August.

Winners at Mosport, Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf (Lola-Aston Martin AMR Muscle Milk / Team CytoSport) are in pursuit of the Lola-Mazda of Chris Dyson and Guy Smith (Dyson Racing), leading to provisional rankings drivers and teams. Last year, Team CytoSport missed the race after an accident with their Porsche RS Spyder, which also put a premature end to the season of Greg Pickett, the owner of the team. But he does not regret not having taken the wheel this year, "With my commitments at CytoSport and a race every two weeks it makes it difficult for me to fully prepare for a race weekend. Plus, Lucas has been doing such a great job as my replacement that it's kind of hard to take him out of the car right now!"

In GT, Corvette Racing ended the domination of Mosport BMW M3 Rahal Letterman Lanigan. Second in the standings, Doug Fehan and drivers Oliver Gavin and Jan Magnussen are in a situation similar to that of Graf and Luhr in Prototypes: a chase that promises to be even more uncertain than the Ferrari 458 Risi Competizione Italia , third at Mosport, could be the wildcard in the short to medium term, with five races still to go.

The 2010 round of the Mid-Ohio was won by the Lola-Mazda of Chris Dyson and Guy Smith.
