A Porsche 956 in the 24 Hours Museum.

The Museum of the Le Mans 24 Hours receives until the end of October a legend of Le Mans history: the Porsche 956.

Appearing first in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1982,  for five years the car had a  domination in endurance racing even more overwhelming than the Porsche 917 in 1970 and 71. The copy presented to the 24 Hours Museum features the livery of the Rothmans backed factory team who won the first two wins of the 956 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1982 (driven by Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell) and in 1983 (with Hurley Haywood, Al Holbert and Vern Schuppan driving). This Porsche 956 is the seventh to be put in the Le Mans 24 Hours Museum, located next to the main entrance of the circuit at the Place Luigi Chinetti.

Porsche is preparing a comeback in the premier prototype category for the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans, which will be held on 14 and 15 June.
