In this video clip; possibly the strangest looking Porsche livery ever, the 917/20, nicknamed "Pink Pig", that raced in the 1971 24 hours of Le Mans. Commentary in English. For more clips go to www.lemans-tv.com.

With the traditional air-cooled flat 12, the 917/20 was designed as a sort of combination between high speed tail long and better handling short tail models, that ruled the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 and 1971. This configuration was in prepariation the 917 going to the United States, where it won the CanAm Challenge in 1972 and 1973.

24 Hours in 1971, Willy Kauhsen and Reinhold Joest took the 917/20 to the seventh position before being forced to retire at half distance. But racing performance was not the only criterion for its legendary status. It was the unforgettable pink design that endeared the 917/20 to race fans. The "Trüffel-Jager von Zuffenhausen"(the truffle hunter of Zuffenhausen) livery designed by Porsche as a tribute to "rillettes" the local pork delicacy of La Sarthe that is possibly as famous as the 24 Hours. Anyway, you can find this unique 917 in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, where it was filmed for the purposes of this video.
