Pierre-Henri Raphanel is used to very high speed. He was close to the 400kph at the wheel of the prototype he drove at the Le Mans 24 Hours at the end of the 1980s. He just made history at the wheel of the Bugatti Veyron SuperSport, making it the fastest street car in the world!
This feat was achieved last weekend on the Ehra-Lessien 21-kilometre circuit at the speed of 431kph! Fitted with an 8-litre W16 with four turbochargers, the SuperSport has very few differences compared to the “standard” version, with redesigned air intakes to optimise aerodynamics. The engine’s power output has been upgraded to 1,200hp and the total weight lowered by more than 100kgs with larger use of carbon fibre.
Five identical cars will be produced – and are already sold out! The price of the Veyron SuperSport has not been revealed, but the car’s unveiling is scheduled on August 15 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, California.
