Excitement is growing at Le Mans where competitors were greeted by another glorious warm sunny day with temperatures expected to reach 25 degrees centigrade with the slight possibility of some rain in the evening. Audi Sport will pass through scrutineering from 11.30 and Peugeot Sport from 12.15. Today we should finally see the R18 in its race colours.
After the fire at the Oak Racing factory yesterday, which resulted in the mechanic Erwan Barreau suffering second degree burns, only one LM P2 Pescarolo-Judd (#35) is expected to now test on Sunday.
Additional drivers have been added for the # 22 Kronos Racing Lola Aston Martin, these being Bas Leinders and Maxime Martin, Marc Rostan will also drive the # 40 LM P2 Oreca 03. Tristan Gommendy and Nicolas Misslin will drive with Manuel Rodrigues in the # 83 JMB Ferrari 430. In FLM #99 JMB Racing will now be driven by Olivier Lombard, John Hartshorne and Philippe Mondolot.
The 23 year old Frenchman Jean-Karl Vernay, who has been racing in Indy Lights in America, will be on hand as a reserve to test the 3 Peugeots, like all newcomers or rookies to Le Mans he will have to complete 10 laps before he would be allowed to start the race.
The pitlane and paddock will be a little busier tomorrow at 9am when cars will take to the legendary Le Mans 24 hours circuit for the first time in 2011.
