Following an admirable first outing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2012 and a fifth place finish in the Petit Le Mans, the American Le Mans Series finale at Road Atlanta, the DeltaWing experienced two major evolutions in 2013. The powerplant went from a Nissan to an Elan motor (from Don Panoz's workshops, one of the initiators of the DeltaWing), and a top was put on the car, making it a closed cockpit machine. A machine that made its first appearance at the ALMS round at the Circuit of the Americas, one month after having led the race at Road America.
Incorporated into the Prototypes class in the TUSCC alongside LM P2 cars from the ALMS and Daytona Prototypes from Grand-Am, the DeltaWing will discover more legendary circuits in 2014 such as Daytona, Watkins Glen and Indianapolis. Like this year, drivers Katherine Legge and Andy Meyrick will pilot the unique machine and for the opening round of the season, the 24 Hours of Daytona (January 25-26), the British pair will be joined by American Alexander Rossi. "I’m fairly new to endurance / sports car racing, but after the success of Le Mans I’m looking forward to the new challenge of Daytona. Being able to race and work with Panoz is a bit surreal for me, as I grew up watching his rich history in American motorsport and the cars he designed."
