24h Le Mans
The Hyperpole is the highlight of today's events with 23 cars hitting the track simultaneously for a race against the clock. Support races Road to Le Mans, the Ligier European Series and Porsche Sprint Challenge are also on the programme.
Competitors will take advantage of five hours of track time today, the last opportunity for teams to fine-tune their cars and for drivers to acclimate to the 24 Hours circuit. The first session is scheduled from 15:00 to 18:00 and the second from 22:00 to midnight.
Today's Hyperpole main event will see the fastest 23 cars – five Hypercars, six LMP2s, six LMGTE Pros and six LMGTE Ams – from yesterday's qualifying on the track at the same time for an exercise in pure speed. The time recorded will be clocked by the fastest driver in each crew. Competitors will not have access to pit lane, but are free to select tyres of their choice, subject to the limit allocated for the event. A ceremony for the respective pole-sitters will take place in the pit straight afterwards. Last year, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing's #7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid took the honours with a time of 3:23.900 clocked by Kamui Kobayashi.
The 50 competitors entered in Road to Le Mans will take part in two qualifying sessions for Michelin Le Mans Cup LMP3 and GT3 cars. The first is scheduled from 12:10 to 12:30 and the second from 12:45 to 13:05. They will then battle it out for Race 1 from 18:30 to 19:25.
For the first time in its history, the Ligier European Series is to be hosted at the 24 Hours circuit. This one-make series was launched in 2020 for futuristic looking Ligier JSP4 prototypes and small Ligier JS2 R GTs designed specifically for racing. This round at Le Mans is the third of six races on the 2022 series calendar. Competitors will take part in a 20-minute qualifying session at 10:15.
This championship created in 2021 by Porsche Club Motorsport France is for gentlemen drivers seeking to gain top-level racing experience. It constitutes the base of the Porsche Motorsport pyramid in France, lower but no less important than Porsche Carrera Cup France. The drivers will take the track today for two qualifying sessions, the first from 08:50 to 09:10 and the second from 09:25 to 09:45.
The 8th edition of this event will pay tribute to those who work behind the scenes in the racing world: mechanics, engineers, drivers, etc. An exhibition will include around 80 racing and collection cars, and this year a set of motos will be on display along with an appearance by Yoshimura SERT Motul, the team that won the last two 24H Motos. Note that a 1961 DB Panhard and a 1923 Fiat are must-sees among the collection cars. Former Courage Compétition team drivers will be on hand and the traditional car parade will take place on National Avenue as well as an indoor version as well.

For his latest project, Peter Doherty (The Libertines, Babyshambles, Peter Doherty & The Puta Madres) has collaborated with Frédéric Lo, a guitarist and composer among others, known for his work with Daniel Darc on the album Crèvecœur. As Lo originally wanted to offer Doherty the Darc title Inutile et Hors d’Usage, their collaboration will now eventually result in an entire album. On his new opus The Fantasy Life Of Poetry And Crime released March 18 and inspired in part by Etretat and its famous Arsène Lupin, the confinement and his new-found sobriety, Doherty sings and has written the lyrics while Lo performs and has composed the music. Various members of Puta Madres and Babyshambles will join the duo on the main stage.
