24 Hours of Le Mans - The legendary spots on the Circuit: the Ford chicane

The Ford chicane

The lap of the circuit is almost over! Only two corners left: the Ford corner and Ford chicane which date back to the end of the 1960s. Though the pit zone was modified after the tragic accident of 1955, the Ford chicane was not created until 1968 so as to slow the cars prior to the pit straight.

A direct consequence of the confrontation between Ford and Ferrari, the Ford chicane was inaugurated by Henri Ford himself. It was altered in 1972 as a part of the large-scale renovations to the entire zone from the Arnage corner to the starting straight which added a second curve, the Ford chicane, to connect with the Circuit Bugatti.

The White House grandstands overlook the two corners and offer a stellar view of the stretch going from the Karting corner to the pit straight. Have you not gotten a numbered seat in this grandstand? Don't panic! If you are present in Le Mans for the test sessions, you can go since numbered seating does not take effect until Saturday. If you don't arrive before Saturday, you can take a spot at the foot of the grandstands and see the cars accelerate before taking on the straight.
