After reviewing in detail the legendary speed records, let's look at records for the drivers and manufacturers.
8 wins: This is the largest number of wins for a driver. This record could be beaten this year as the holder is none other than Tom Kristensen, who will start the 90th edition at the wheel of an Audi R18 e-tron quattro. It should be noted that the Danish driver is the only one who can beat that record, since among other active drivers, the largest number of wins is limited to ... 2! In addition to the winners for the past 2 years Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Treluyer, Allan McNish (Audi) and Alexander Wurz (Toyota) also have two wins under their belt.
16 wins: This is the largest number of overall wins for a manufacturer. It will not be until 2014 and the expected arrival of the new Porsche prototype for that record to be beaten. To contrast this, in second place, are Audi with 11 victories. It is not impossible that the German manufacturer will add to their tally this year. And to think that Toyota, are still looking for their first win at Le Mans!
33 starts: this is the largest number of starts for a drivert. It is Henri Pescarolo who holds this record, which is not about to be beaten, since among the drivers that will be starting next Saturday, Christophe Bouchut (Lotus No.31) has the largest number of starts, with 19, followed on 18 starts by Emmanuel Collard (Porsche No. 75).
62 years of continuous participation and 753 cars entered: the record for the largest number of starts and cars for a manufacturer. Unsurprisingly, Porsche hold the record and still no surprise is that Ferrari come second with 51 years here and 348 starting cars. For the record, in 1971, 33 of the 49 cars that started were Porsche cars.
