Jonny Adam first tasted success here in 2017 in the LMGTE Pro class after an epic showdown with Corvette Racing which went right to the penultimate lap of the race. However, this was the first win in La Sarthe for Charlie Eastwood and Salih Yoluc, the latter becoming the first Turk to win at Le Mans. It is also a great reward for one of the fastest and most consistent teams to have made its way up the ACO’s endurance pyramid over the past few years, competing in the European Le Mans Series, the FIA World Endurance Championship and, of course, Le Mans.
Salih Yoluc: “We’ve had pretty bad luck over the last three years so we were pretty determined to turn that upside down this time. A lot of hard work went into preparing the race, the car, and everything else. I’m very happy that we won here as a team and I was really happy to be the first Turkish person to win Le Mans.”
Charlie Eastwood: “It’s amazing. It’s my third time here and the last few years, as Salih said, we were slightly unlucky. It was a great race and the last two and a half hours of my driving to the finish line were probably the longest of my life, just waiting for the flag to drop – what a relief! It’s a goal for nearly every driver in the world, and especially a GT driver, to win Le Mans.”
Jonny Adam: “It was a bit different to my win in 2017 but it’s a great result. The team have done such a great job preparing the car to the finest detail, pit stop practice and the like, and elements like that have definitely come into play this weekend. These guys have driven so well, super fast. To stand on that podium again is a great feeling, but to stand there with these guys is extra special.”
