24 Hours of Le Mans – Lamborghini teases its Hypercar

Lamborghini has lifted the veil on the Hypercar that the Italian marque will field in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2024.

The LMDh-spec machine will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 entirely developed by Squadra Corse, Lamborghini’s racing division. In line with the regulations drawn up for the class, the Hypercar will have a hybrid powertrain comprising an internal combustion engine and an energy recovery system with a maximum of 500 kW of combined power.

Lamborghini’s Hypercar, which will make its race début in 2024 in both the FIA WEC and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, has a peak speed of 340 kph and weighs in at 1030 kg (excluding fuel and driver) as stipulated in the rulebook. The car will be up to 2000 mm wide and measure 5100 mm in length with a 3148 mm wheelbase. The engine will weigh at least 180 kg. The chassis will be designed in collaboration with Ligier Automotive.

Lamborghini has already announced that Andrea Caldarelli and Mirko Bortolotti will be on board for the Hypercar programme. The two drivers, who already compete in the biggest GT races with the Italian marque, will be involved in developing the car.
