24 Hours of Le Mans - In the driving seat of the Alpine A470 with Matt Rao (video)

All LM P2 cars are now closed-cockpit but there’s not much room for the driver with all the control panels.

Last time, British driver Matt Rao (Alpine A470 - Gibson #36 de Signatech Alpine Matmut) showed us the steering wheel of the car he shares with Romain Dumas and Gustavo Menezes). Now, watch as he explains what all the buttons are for (and demonstrates his excellent command of French).

Matt’s commentary:

Hi, I’m Matt Rao, driver of the #36 Signatech Alpine Matmut for the Le Mans 24 hours.

Before the race, I’ll be showing you the steering wheel and the controls of the car.

The buttons on the steering wheel are the ones we use when driving. They’re the most important ones.

The right-hand panel has the controls for the lights and settings when we enter the pits.

This one is for the indicators. We don’t use them during the race, they’re just for emergencies or during race incidents, to let others know what we’re doing.

Then there’s the headlights, for darkness and for rain. The rain lights flash, so even with the spray, we’re still visible.

On the side, there are buttons for the mechanics if we have problems starting the car, and most important, the ignition, which starts the engine and brings the car to life.
