24 Hours of Le Mans - Hour 17 recap

No change at the top of the standings after 17 hours. The #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid is controlling the race from the front at a moderate pace. Behind, an exciting battle is brewing between the LMP2s for the podium places.

LMP1

Neel Jani continues to control the race at his own pace. He has no need to attack unduly as the #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid holds an 11-lap lead over the #38 Oreca 07 – Gibson fielded by Jackie Chan DC Racing. Toyota’s absence from the battle for victory (only the #8 TS050 Hybrid remains in the field, down in 15th place 28 laps behind) makes this a rather unusual edition. With just one LMP1 at the top of the overall standings, there will logically be at least one LMP2 on the podium.

LMP2

The #38 Oreca 07 – Gibson has led since night fell, but has not managed to shake off the Vaillante Rebellions, particularly #13. During the 17th hour of the race, Nelson Piquet, Mathias Beche and David Heinemeier Hansson have managed to get within 1:45 of the leader.

LMGTE Pro

The closest race is being fought in LMGTE Pro. Six cars are on the same lap, with the #91 Porsche 911 driven by Patrick Pilet leading from Richie Stanaway in the #95 Aston Martin.

LMGTE Am

Whereas Aston Martin dominated the LMGTE Am in the early stages, three Ferraris now lead the way! JMW Motorsport (#84), Spirit of Race (#55) and Scuderia Corsa (#62) make up the provisional podium for the Italian manufacturer.
