A special event of this 84th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ford’s official return with its Ford GT, the successor of the Ford MkII that won 50 years ago, will be the theme of the activities organized by the “Virage de Mulsanne” association.
All vintage and racing car fans will be able to admire these legendary racing cars set up at this corner emblematic of the race where drivers step off the accelerator and slam on the brakes after a top speed of 300 km/h over nearly 5 km. For this fifth edition, the organizers will display for spectators Ford GT 40s, Mustangs, Shelbys, and even the emblematic Ford T and Ford A, as well as Taunus, Capri, Anglia, Vedette, Versaille and Comète models…and many others from the American marque.
Dindo Capello and Emmanuele Pirro
Drivers of yesteryear and today from the drivers' club will be present, such as Dindo Capello, Emmanuele Pirro and Le Mans native Jacky Haran for photos and autographs. Attendees will be able to admire at the corner various cartoonists in partnership with the "Festival de Caricatures" which took place on 14 and 15 May. Among the attractions, the Carte Blanche orchestra will provide musical ambiance right at the Mulsanne corner, where beverages and snacks will also be available.
The event will take place in two stages, first at the Mulsanne corner from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and then near the city hall starting at 7:00 p.m.
President of the "Virage de Mulsanne" association, Claude Ouvrard: "The highlight of the event will be the open, free-of-charge exhibition at the track where we hope to have on display nearly 500 cars, the portion of the track between Mulsanne and Arnage being closed to traffic on Friday, we will be able to host many vintage cars, but will reward only the first 350 participants looking to show their collection cars. They will be given a superb commemorative plaque of the event in the coulours of Ford and the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans created by Ray Toombs, official painter of the race, who will also display some of his other works of art."
At 4:00 p.m., spectators can leave to take part in the great Drivers' Parade in downtown Le Mans, but the event will continue with an exhibition and parade near the city hall starting 7:00 p.m. followed by a concert by Random Rock.
Beverages and snacks will be available at both sites of the event.
