Once again, endurance racing was in the spotlight at the soirée thanks namely to Strakka Racing's driver line-up. Jonny Kane, Nick Leventis and Danny Watts (absent), fourth in the LM P2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, accepted the Woolf Barnato Trophy (three-time Le Mans winner between 1928 and 1930) awarded to the highest placed British driver at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (eighth overall).
Their fellow countryman Mike Conway was awarded two prizes: the ACO Plate - also given to the highest placed British driver at the 24 Hours of Le Mans - for his second place finish with Toyota, and the Richard Lloyd Trophy for the highest placed club member at the 6 Hours of Silverstone (second).
Thanks as well to that opening round of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) season, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb won the Silverstone-Le Mans Challenge. The trio, now World Endurance Champions, achieved the best cumulative result of the two races which they won with Porsche. Though the season is over, the three men have been quite busy lately with the FIA awards Friday in Vienna, Austria; the Porsche Night of Champions Saturday in Weissach, Germany; and the BRDC dinner at the Grand Connaught hotel in London!
