24 Hours of Le Mans - Corvette releases a limited series inspired by the C7.R

Last year, Chevrolet debuted the Corvette C7.R at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which turned into a class podium finish. Last week, the Detroit-based manufacturer presented a limited series of 500 units of the road car which pays tribute to the race version.

Corvette's record at Le Mans in GT during the last 15 years is remarkable. Though it has never won overall at the 24 Hours, Chevrolet has amassed no less than 17 class podium finishes between 2001 and 2014, out of 42 possible, with three different models, which amounts to an impressive 40% success rate!

The C5-R has won three times, behind its little sister the C6.R with four wins. Though the latest C7.R has yet to win, the trio Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor reached the second step on the podium in 2014 with the car.

So as to pay tribute to three generations of race cars, Chevrolet will produce - beginning in 2016 - 500 units of the Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition in a yellow and black livery. A just reward since the racing beast, which will take the start at the 83rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, comes from the Z06.

The Corvette Z06 is assembled in the factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky, not far from the NCM (National Corvette Museum) Motorsports Park, a circuit that borrows portions of the great Circuit des 24 Heures, at which Nissan conducted tests with the GT-R LM NISMO last week...
