Corvette Racing has unveiled the new C8.R it will be fielding for the first time at next year’s 24 Hours of Daytona as part of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Seventeen cars are set to line up in the LMP2 category at the 93rd 24 Hours of Le Mans (11-15 June), nine of which have crews with both professional and amateur drivers (Pro/Am). Known for being highly competitive, this category always delivers the intensity. Defending champion United Autosports is determined to defend its crown.

<h2>What is an LMP2?</h2>

<p>The &quot;Le Mans Prototype 2&quot;&nbsp;(LMP2) is a closed car&nbsp;designed solely for racing and reserved for independent teams competing&nbsp;in the 24 Hours of Le&nbsp;Mans, European Le Mans Series, Asian Le Mans Series and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.</p>

<p>Four constructors were chosen to furnish this&nbsp;category&#39;s chassis: Dallara (with&nbsp;the&nbsp;P217), Onroak Automotive (with&nbsp;the Ligier JS P217), ORECA&nbsp;(with the ORECA&nbsp;07) and&nbsp;Riley/Multimatic (with the Riley MK30). Gibson is the only engine supplier in LMP2.</p>

<p>The selling price of a new and complete car without the engine or approved electronic equipment must not exceed &euro;483,000.</p>

<p>Driver line-ups must include at least one Silver or Bronze driver. Those with a Bronze driver compete&nbsp;in a specific classification: LMP2 Pro/Am.</p>

<p>Iron Lynx and&nbsp;Proton Competition&nbsp;are joint entering this ORECA entrusted to Jonas Ried (son of&nbsp;Proton Competition owner Christian Ried)/Maceo Capietto/Reshad de Gerus. The car was forced to retire at the 2024 24 Hours. It is currently participating in the European Le Mans Series. Having previously represented IDEC SPORT Racing, Cool Racing and Duqueine Team, de Gerus&#39;&nbsp;experience in LMP2 at&nbsp;Le Mans will help catapult this&nbsp;ORECA&nbsp;to the front of the field.</p>

<h2>Proton Competition</h2>

<p>Proton Competition is entered in all three categories at this year&#39;s&nbsp;24 Hours: Hypercar with a&nbsp;Porsche 963, LMP2 with this ORECA&nbsp;07-Gibson and&nbsp;LMGT3 with two&nbsp;Ford Mustangs. The ORECA is shared by&nbsp;Giorgio Roda (a team member since&nbsp;2018), Rene Binder (a former&nbsp;driver for DKR Engineering, Duqeine Team, Algarve Pro Racing, Inter Europol Competition and&nbsp;Panis Barthez Competition) and&nbsp;Bent Viscaal who drove the #9 in 2024. The #11 ORECA is competing in LMP2 Pro/Am in the European Le Mans Series, finishing 11th overall and fourth in its category at the&nbsp;4 Hours of&nbsp;Barcelona. <p>This British team&#39;s&nbsp;last appearance in the 24 Hours dates back to&nbsp;2019, but returning this year in&nbsp;the LMP2 Pro/Am category. The team will count on the speed of Ryan Cullen (former&nbsp;Vector Sport driver) and&nbsp;Patrick Pilet (former official Porsche driver with&nbsp;13 participations). They will be joined by amateur driver&nbsp;Michael Jensen.</p>

<p>This will be IDEC SPORT Racing&#39;s eighth start in the 24 Hours.&nbsp;The team is on the cusp of&nbsp;a turning point in its history&nbsp;as it prepares to take part&nbsp;in&nbsp;the Hypercar category as Genesis Magma Racing&#39;s technical staff next year. Competing in the&nbsp;European Le Mans Series, IDEC&nbsp;kicked off the season with the #18 ORECA finishing second at the&nbsp;4 Hours of&nbsp;Barcelone before taking the top spot at the&nbsp;4 Hours of Le&nbsp;Castellet. For the 93rd 24 Hours, the team has recruited&nbsp;three-time Le Mans winner Andr&eacute; Lotterer who will also go on to&nbsp;represent Genesis in Hypercar. The #18 ORECA is considered a major contender for victory in&nbsp;LMP2.</p>

The #22 is entrusted to a&nbsp;seasoned driver line-up of&nbsp;Renger van der Zande/Pietro Fittipaldi/David Heinemeier Hasson with a total of&nbsp;20 participations in the 24 Hours. The #23 is shared by&nbsp;Oliver Jarvis (winner last year in the&nbsp;#22)/Ben Hanley/Daniel Schneider.</p>

<p>This French team based in Annecy (Haute-Savoie) has four&nbsp;participations in the&nbsp;24 Hours under its belt and is competing in the European Le Mans Series, finishing fifth at the 4 Hours of&nbsp;Barcelona before being forced to retire at the&nbsp;4 Hours of Le&nbsp;Castellet. CLX Pure Rxcing is led by&nbsp;former&nbsp;Alpine&nbsp;Hypercar driver Nicolas Lapierre. Aliaksandr Malykin won the FIA Endurance LMGT3 Teams trophy last season with&nbsp;Manthey Pure Rxcing. He only began&nbsp;racing an&nbsp;LMP2 this past winter&nbsp;in the 2024-2025 Asian Le Mans Series and will surely benefit from the experience of&nbsp;Tom Blomqvist (three&nbsp;participations) and&nbsp;Tristan Vautier (one).</p>

<h2>VDS Panis Racing</h2>

<p>Also over the winter, Olivier Panis&#39; team launched a collaboration with&nbsp;Marc VDS. The Belgian outfit is already competing in the&nbsp;Moto2 World Championship, Superbike World Championship&nbsp;and GT.&nbsp;This new partnership will provide&nbsp;Panis Racing with additional resources to improve its competitive level. TDS Racing is responsible for technical support. VDS Panis Racing is taking part in the&nbsp;European Le Mans Series in which the #48 ORECA finished third at the 4 Hours of Barcelona&nbsp;and 12th at the&nbsp;4 Hours of Le&nbsp;Castellet. Alpine Endurance Team&nbsp;Hypercar driver Charles Milesi is replaced by&nbsp;Franck Perera.</p>

At the beginning of the season, the car became the first in the LMP2 Pro/Am category to win a&nbsp;European Le Mans Series race, the 4 Hours of Barcelona, in the overall&nbsp;classification. This&nbsp;year, Perrodo is teaming up with&nbsp;former Alpine Hypercar driver Matthieu Vaxivi&egrave;re and&nbsp;official Porsche driver Ant&oacute;nio F&eacute;lix da Costa. Naturally, the trio is seeking a repeat performance of&nbsp;2024.</p>

<p>The American outfit and its dragon &quot;Spike&quot; are back at the&nbsp;24 Hours for a third&nbsp;participation, teaming again with TF Sport for technical&nbsp;support. Last year, Louis Del&eacute;traz placed the car in&nbsp;pole position in the&nbsp;LMP2 category before finishing second in LMP2&nbsp;Pro/Am, then went on to win the European Le Mans Series, earning an invitation to the&nbsp;93rd 24 Hours. AO Racing owner/driver PJ Hyett has once again called upon Del&eacute;traz to lead the charge, joined by former Porsche Penske Motorsport&nbsp;Hypercar driver&nbsp;Dane Cameron.</p>

2025 24 Hours of Le Mans – Presentation of the LMP2 category

Less than a week before the 24 Hours of Le Mans track action begins on Test Day, the city is ready to welcome the stars of the show: the cars. On Saturday 7 June from 3 p.m., 19 racing cars representing all three classes on the grid take to the streets for an exceptional city-centre procession.

<p>Organised by the ACO and Le Mans city council for the third year running, the procession is a nod to the past, when 24 Hours of Le Mans competitors would drive to the circuit in their racing cars. This year the procession will complete two laps of the 2.1-kilometer circular route taking in the city&rsquo;s best-known streets: tunnel Wilbur Wright, quai Louis Blanc, rue Gambetta, place de la R&eacute;publique, boulevard Ren&eacute; Levasseur, and avenue Fran&ccedil;ois Mitterrand.</p>

<p><u><strong>A spectator-friendly route</strong></u></p>

<p>This year, there are three excellent main vantage points &ndash; quai Louis Blanc, place de la R&eacute;publique and place du Jet d&rsquo;Eau (at the foot of the cathedral) &ndash; with entertainment and live commentary.</p>

Hypercars, LMP2s and LMGT3s in Le Mans city centre

For hardcore fans, missing the 24 Hours of Le Mans is just unthinkable while, for others, attending the world’s greatest endurance race is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Choosing the best place from which to enjoy the race can turn the weekend into an unforgettable experience. Here’s a rundown of the best vantage points that offer far more than a grandstand seat.

<p>It&rsquo;s not just the Pit Straight and Dunlop Chicane that capture all the best action. Especially as <u><strong><a href="https://www.24h-lemans.com/en/news/24-hours-of-le-mans-new-spectator-vantage-points-59091" target="_blank">new spectator areas</a></strong></u>&nbsp;have been developed to offer fans a new race experience. Try them out!&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Karting Area</h2>

<p>A new mound for spectators was created over the winter near the Karting des 24 Heures du Mans. This lofty position offers <strong>a splendid view of the final part of the Porsche Curves and the Karting Turn</strong>. Cars fly through this fast part of the circuit as the drivers battle against the high lateral thrust.&nbsp; See how aerodynamics come into play to keep the machines firmly on the track.</p>

<p>Fans with just a standard admission ticket can simply walk to the mound or they can hop aboard the little train.&nbsp;<br />
A Fan Zone with a big screen, food outlets and toilet facilities can be found in this area.</p>

<h2>Tertre Rouge</h2>

<p>Tertre Rouge is a key part of the circuit for drivers as it influences their entry into the Mulsanne Straight. The cars negotiate the curve at mindblowing speeds of over 180 kph. Take up a position on the outside of the turn and watch the drivers use the kerb to open up their line and gain precious seconds. If you listen carefully,&nbsp;<strong>you will hear the flat bottom of the cars rub on the kerb</strong>. A little clue for fans to identify a driver on the attack!</p>

<h2>Arnage and Indianapolis</h2>

<p>Arnage is the only turn on the circuit to have kept its original layout apart from a gravel trap for safety purposes. It is also the slowest as drivers take it at around 60&nbsp;kph. At this speed, spectators have plenty of time to admire the cars and their outline. What&rsquo;s more, they can also watch the drivers approach Indianapolis from the mound. This is a very fast right-hand turn followed by a left-hander with a slight incline.</p>

<h2>Mulsanne Corner</h2>

<p>Watch the brakes glow as the cars slow from 300 to 70 kph in no time at all. There&rsquo;s certainly little room for error. Once through the turn, the engines find their voice as the drivers step on the gas. A thrilling sound for lovers of this mechanical symphony!&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

The result is an ode to daring the impossible and a visual incarnation of a dream coming true.</p>

<p>The crew of the Porsche 911 GT3 R LMGT3 is perfectly in tune with this message.&nbsp;Porsche has recently promoted <strong>Michelle Gatting</strong>&nbsp;to become a contracted driver. She brings speed, consistency and unerring concentration.&nbsp;<strong>Rahel Frey</strong>&nbsp;is a GT veteran. She boasts two decades of motorsport experience, including seven 24 Hours of Le Mans starts.&nbsp;<strong>C&eacute;lia Martin</strong>,&nbsp;on the other hand, is a Le Mans rookie who has quickly climbed the GT ranks. Together, they form a trio ready to challenge the best and aim for a historic performance in the highly competitive LMGT3 class.</p>

<p>The Iron Dames hope to bring fans and communities onboard this initiative via a store in the Race Village that will stock the Powering Your Dreams lifestyle collection, interactive experiences, surprises for fans, content and stories highlighting true accounts of ambition, resilience and success.</p>

<p>Michelle Gatting:<em><strong> We are racing with the team [Manthey Racing] that dominated 24h of Le Mans last year. Obviously we know the task won&rsquo;t be easy, it never is, and therefore we have to be extra strong, work extra hard to achieve a good result.</strong></em></p>

<p>C&eacute;lia Martin: <strong><em>We&rsquo;re sending a message that goes beyond racing: ambition, inclusion, and determination. We&rsquo;re proving that motorsport can be a force for change, empowering the next generation to chase their dreams, on and off track. And I am proud to share this adventure with my two experienced teammates Michelle and Rahel.</em></strong></p>

<p>The Iron Dames currently lie in 16th place in the chase for the FIA Endurance Trophy for LMGT3 Teams.&nbsp;<br />

2025 24 Hours of Le Mans – A new livery for the Iron Dames

<p>The C8.R was based on the <a href="https://www.lemans.org/en/news/24-hours-of-le-mans-chevrolet-unveils-the-new-corvette-stingray/52585">new Corvette Stingray</a> presented back in July and will be racing in LMGTE Pro under the Corvette Racing banner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in addition to the IMSA competition. The mid-engine C8 is a break from the front engine design of its predecessors.<br />
The #4 sports a silver livery inspired by Corvettes of the past, the 1973 Aerovette and the 1959 Stingray Racer. Meanwhile, the yellow hues of the #3 sister car are in keeping with Corvette tradition, the hints of silver a nod to the glittering success of the GTLMs in the past two decades.</p>

<p>The new GT will line up on the grid of the 24 Hours of Daytona on 25&ndash;26 January 2020 for its maiden race. Corvette Racing also aims to be at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 13&ndash;14 June 2020.</p>
