Chevrolet has decided to push the boundaries with its new Corvette Stingray. The mid-engine C8 is a break from the front engine design of its predecessors. The naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 produces 495 bhp, making the Stingray the most powerful base model Corvette ever built. Prices start at €53,286.
Given that the LMGTE class regulations require racing cars to be based on road-going versions, the Stingray could well provide the basis for a future Corvette Racing entry at the 24 Hours of Le Mans or in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The Chevrolet Corvette C7.R seen recently at the 87th running of the Le Mans 24 Hours, which also competes in the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, made its début in 2014. It subsequently underwent a few changes to comply with the GTE regulations that came into force in 2016.
