After his first win at Le Mans with Porsche in 1998, Allan McNish was a part of Toyota's debut in Formula 1 (16 Grand Prix in 2002), before turning permanently to endurance and building one of the most impressive records in the discipline: two additional victories at the 24 Hours (2008 and 2013), four at the 12 Hours of Sebring (2004, 2006, 2009 and 2012) and a world champion title (2013).

Sir Jackie Stewart's journey went the opposite way, with three Formula 1 world titles, for which he holds the victory record (27) from 1973 to 1987. It was precisely the year of his debut in Formula 1, in 1965, that he made his lone appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Along with Graham Hill, he drove a Rover-BRM. That car, which had the distinction of being powered by a gas turbine, had already competed in the 1963 24 Hours before forfeiting the following year. Exactly 50 years ago, Stewart and Hill took it to 10th place overall and first British car ranked. Three months after the performance, at Monza (Italy) Stewart won his first Formula 1 victory, giving BRM a one-two ahead of...Graham Hill. This was the first stepping stone that would make of him a giant of the discipline.

Another coincidence links McNish and Stewart: McNish was born in 1969, the year Stewart won his first Formula 1 title.
