24 Hours of Le Mans – 12 Hour Round-Up: Toyota dominates and the battle rages in LMP2

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing still led the charge at the midpoint of the 90th 24 Hours of Le Mans and competitors continued to fight to climb in the classification in the other three classes.

After 12 hours of racing, the #7 and #8 Toyota GR010 Hybrids both remain contenders for victory, with the Hypercars routinely completing laps in 3:31 to 3:32 minutes. The #8 of trio Buemi/Hartley/Hirakawa is trailed by the defending winner #7, but the gap is merely 20 seconds. Glickenhaus Racing's #709 Glickenhaus 007 LMH is holding steady in third place two laps behind the leaders. After falling to 17th position on the heels of Olivier Pla's spin-out at the Tertre Rouge, the #708 Glickenhaus has climbed back to eighth. The Alpine has also made progress, figuring 22nd after gaining six spots over the last four hours.

The battle has remained fierce in the LMP2 class, with JOTA's #38 ORECA 07-Gibson firmly in first place, but the #9 and #31 ORECAs fielded by Prema Orlen Team and Team WRT are keeping the pressure on the British outfit. Also, at around 02:00, Duqueine Team's #30 ORECA driven by Richard Bradley spun out at the Mulsanne Corner.

In LMGTE Pro, Porsche has taken advantage of Corvette Racing's ongoing troubles to take the lead in the class. The #92 Porsche 911 RSR-19 shared by Michael Christensen, Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor is followed by the #64 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R, AF Corse's #51 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo and the #92 Porsche, all within 2:30 minutes!

WeatherTech Racing's #79 Porsche 911 RSR-19 held on to first place in the LMGTE Am class for quite some time, but TF Sport's #33 Aston Martin Vantage AMR persevered. Marco Sørensen improved on the #33's best lap several times, resulting in establishing Ben Keating, Henrique Chaves and Sørensen as the new leaders in the class. The top 5 cars are all on the same lap with Hardpoint Motorsport's #99 Porsche, Northwest AMR's #98 Aston Martin and Dempsey-Proton Racing's #77 Porsche also still in the running.
