The 911 has been a Porsche icon since its debut in 1963: victorious on all terrains and under all possible conditions. Raced for the first time at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966, it was not until the 1990s, with the GT1 version, that it became a contender for the outright victory. Second and third in 1996, then forced to retire in 1997, it took in 1998 the sixteenth (and last) Porsche victory in La Sarthe.
