Today, the 62 cars entered in the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans return to track action after Sunday’s Test Day. Free practice will be followed by qualifying for tomorrow’s Hyperpole. The competitors appearing in the support races Road To Le Mans, Lamborghini Super Trofeo and the Fun Cup will also take centre stage.
The teams have two sessions from 14:00 to 17:00 and from 22:00 to midnight to adjust their cars’ settings with a view to the race itself. The testing schedule includes long stints, the aero setup, tyres and fuel economy. If they have time, some of the drivers step up the pace to see what their vehicle has under the bonnet before the qualifying session.
At 19:00, track speed will crank up a notch during 60 minutes of qualifying as the drivers go all-out to clock the fastest possible time. The prize is a place in tomorrow’s Hyperpole where the top eight cars in each class get the chance to wage battle for the best slots on the grid.
The Michelin Le Mans Cup, created in 2016, is a perfect illustration of the ACO’s policy to set up benchmark events for up-and-coming drivers to learn the ropes. Road To Le Mans, the championship's showcase event, is the third of the six rounds in the 2024 season.
Today, the competitors have two 60-minute free practice sessions, scheduled for 11:45 and 20:30, to prepare their LMP3s and GT3s.
This year, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe appears on the 24 Hours of Le Mans support race bill for the first time. It coincides with the Italian manufacturer’s commitment to Hypercar, the pinnacle of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo is one of the highest calibre one-make championships in the world. Since it was founded, some of the best GT drivers, amateur racers and champions have faced off on emblematic racetracks such as Monza, Silverstone, Paul Ricard and Spa-Francorchamps. The Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 is the star of this support race. The drivers will be on track from 10:30 for a 45-minute free practice, and then from 17:30 to 18:15 for qualifying.
After a two-year absence, the Fun Cup returns to the 24 Hours of Le Mans support card. The world-famous Beetle will be back to tackle the iconic 13.626-km circuit. This year, a bumper starting grid of 118 cars is expected. An hour of free practice will take place from 09:00.
Did you know? Despite being relatively unknown at the time, French rock band Louise Attaque sold a record 3 million copies of its self-titled début album in 1997. They followed up this phenomenal achievement with a further four albums and toured the world, as far afield as Asia and South America. The band’s current line-up of Gaëtan Roussel (guitar and vocals), Robin Feix (bass) and Arnaud Samuel (violon) released their latest album Planète Terre in April 2022. After another triumphant tour last year, Louise Attaque are back on the road in 2024.
