2017 FIA WEC Champions crowned

The world of motor sport gathered on Friday at the iconic Château de Versailles on the outskirts of Paris for the 2017 FIA Prize Giving Ceremony and the crowning of this season’s champions.

Porsche’s Earl Bamber, Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley were honoured as 2017 FIA World Endurance Champions while Porsche received its third consecutive Manufacturers’ trophy. On display at the famous French venue was the trio’s championship-winning Porsche 919 Hybrid which took them to victory four times in the 9-race calendar, with the New Zealand-German line up only being off the podium once all season.

Also receiving their trophy were Ferrari’s James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi. The pairing clinched the GT FIA World Endurance Championship – officially awarded as an FIA championship for the first time – in Bahrain. In the No.51 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE Calado and Pier Guidi were the only drivers to win three times in the season, and four further podium places in LMGTE Pro reinforced their claim on the crown. Antonello Colletta from Ferrari received the trophy for the GT FIA World Endurance Manufacturers Championship.
