2014 24 Hours of Le Mans – The Porsche 919 Hybrid in five dates

On the eve of its first start at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, here is a summary of the brief - albeit impressive! - history of the Porsche 919 Hybrid.

June 12, 2013 – First roll-out of the new LM P1 prototype, still unnamed, on the Porsche test track, in camouflage colours with at the wheel Timo Bernhard. The first photos released thereafter.

December 14, 2013 – Porsche officially unveils its new LM P1 car's moniker, 919 Hybrid, as well as the names of the six drivers: Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas, Brendon Hartley, Neel Jani, Marc Lieb and Mark Webber.

March 5, 2014 – Presentation at the Geneva Motor Show of the Porsche LM P1 car and LM GTE Pro car, and the 919 Hybrid colours. The final driver line-ups are also announced: Dumas, Jani and Lieb will drive the No. 14, Bernhard, Hartley and Webber the No. 20.

April 20, 2014 – At the end of the 6 Hours of Silverstone, first round of the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the 919 Hybrid won its first podium finish as of its first race thanks to Bernhard-Hartley-Webber who finished third.

May 2, 2014 – Thanks to Marc Lieb and Neel Jani, the 919 Hybrid clinched the pole position in the very last minutes of the qualifying session of the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the second round of the World Championship.
