sustainable development
Since 1906, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest has built its development around strong commitments and values of solidarity, and has always placed innovation at the heart of its concerns. The ACO has therefore decided to take sustainable development issues a step further by structuring its commitments, which are now identified under three main pillars: ENGAGEMANS FOR THE PLANET, ENGAGEMANS FOR A RESPONSIBLE ECONOMY, ENGAGEMANS FOR ALL
To take the CSR strategy introduced in June 2021 a step further, the ACO presented the Carbon Audit of its showcase event at the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans. It also revealed a clear objective – Race to 2030 – to reduce its CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030.
Race to 2030 is the ACO's and the 24 Hours of Le Mans' ambition to meet the climate challenge. ACO’s plan to cut CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030 and to contribute to projects designed to sequester the equivalent of the remaining emissions.
The Sustainable Endurance Award recognises competitors' commitment to and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). It is compulsory for all teams taking part in the WEC and the Le Mans 24 Hours.
At the last edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours in June 2024, the ACO awarded Ferrari AFCorse in the Positive Innovation category, alongside WRT (Prix Coup de Coeur) and Alpine Endurance (Prix du Président).

The ACO's CSR policy is implemented throughout the Le Mans 24 Hours Circuit and is reflected in each of its activities (waste management, material recovery, local sourcing, partner associations, school visits, on-track with fuel or tires, the Green Ticket, etc.).
For several years, the ACO has partnered with the Restos du Cœur association to collect uneaten food items and redistribute them to those in need. In 2024, nearly 10.2 tons of food were collected and redistributed in Sarthe after the Le Mans 24 Hours (including fresh products, meat, vegetables, bread, pastries, etc.). All these items are collected from the circuit's food vendors and teams present in the paddock.
Bread bins will be set up at Restos du Coeur collection centres around the circuit so that the bread can be collected by the Pain Contre la Faim association.
For catering offers, the ACO encourages restaurateurs to give priority to short circuits. The ACO is working with restaurateurs to increase the proportion of products from local, label-certified producers in their catering offerings. All restaurateurs now offer vegetarian meals.
Restaurant owners have also set up facilities to welcome people with disabilities.
Paprec is the company responsible for all waste management at the 24 Hours of Le Mans site throughout the year. The shared goal of the ACO and Paprec is to achieve 80% material recovery for the waste generated at the circuit (with only 20% going to energy recovery).
